Executive Functioning Coaching

Individualized coaching to help your child succeed

Utilizing expert knowledge gained from two decades of experience at some of the world’s top international schools, Matt offers targeted, one-on-one executive functioning coaching to help your child master the essential skills needed for success. Whether your child struggles with completing assignments, focus, time management, or organization, we carefully design a personalized framework to build strong habits, reduce academic anxiety, and boost your child’s independence and confidence.

What is executive functioning (EF) coaching?

Executive Functioning (EF) coaching is not the same as traditional academic tutoring. While math tutoring may focus on teaching specific math skills like multiplication or division, EF coaching helps students learn the core skills they need to succeed in school and life – planning, time management, focus, study skills, breaking down big assignments into small parts, and more.

Many intelligent students struggle not because they lack capability, but because they experience a breakdown between knowing what to do and actually initiating the task. Through a collaborative, positive framework, we help students understand how their unique brains work, moving them away from the cycle of overwhelm and toward sustainable, independent success in school.

What skills can you teach my child?

We focus on a core toolkit of practical, real-world habits that transform how students navigate their day. Your child will learn concrete strategies for:

  • Task initiation – overcoming procrastination and starting work without battles
  • Time management – learning to estimate how long tasks actually take
  • Planning and prioritization – learning how to identify the most important tasks and break large assignments into manageable daily steps
  • Effective study methods – replacing low-impact habits like re-reading or highlighting with active, effective study skills
  • Goal setting and self-monitoring – teaching students how to track their own academic progress and take pride in their personal growth
  • Self-advocacy – empowering students to communicate their learning needs to teachers and articulate when they need support
  • Physical organization – keeping track of assignments, backpacks, and digital school portals

What challenges does EF coaching address?

Executive Functioning coaching directly addresses the challenges that prevent bright students from reaching their full potential. In the classroom and at home, this often manifests as procrastination, losing track of homework and assignments, and a tendency to become overwhelmed by multi-step tasks and assignments.

Rather than seeing these behavior as lack of motivation, we understand that students have not yet learned the skills needed to plan their time, organize their assignments, study in a way that helps them learn and remember, and manage their busy schedules. Through a structured, supportive, coaching model, we teach your child how to overcome challenges and apply these key skills to any subject area or aspect of their life.

What happens in a coaching session?

Every session is highly collaborative, structured, and centered around your child’s current week so the strategies feel immediately useful. During coaching sessions we:

  • Create a system to track their assignments and commitments
  • Set up a plan for the week to manage school, home, and family commitments
  • Break down large assignments into smaller parts and create a timeline for completion
  • Practice effective study techniques that help them learn and remember
  • Help children identify their successes and their challenges and identify clear steps to take to continue to improve
